Mechanic In Workshop Changing Tire

Taking care of your tires is one of the simplest, least expensive things you can do when it comes to car maintenance. Tire care helps your tires last longer, which will save you money in the long run. Here are a few key things to consider for taking care of your tires, and of course, you can always visit INFINITI of Naperville. Tire service is one of the things we do best, and we’re ready to help.

Maintain Proper Air Pressure

Air pressure is the top priority. Why? Tires with the wrong amount of air don’t wear evenly, which means they won’t last as long. If you’re 10 to 20 percent off all the time, your tires will wear out 10 to 20 percent faster. Under-inflated tires use more fuel, too, which will cause you to waste gas. Your goal is to keep them properly inflated all the time, so as they gradually wear out, it happens in an even pattern. Check your air pressure monthly.

Inspect Your Tires

Driving over a nail or a sharp rock can cause a slow leak. Visually inspect your tires regularly to see if they look low or show physical damage. It’s easy to do this while you’re getting gas. See a service professional at least once a year for a tire inspection.

Rotate and Align

Get your tires rotated and aligned regularly. Check your owner’s manual for the service intervals to see how often you should be doing it. This is the best way to ensure that your tires wear evenly, and you can get them inspected at the same time.

Do I Need New Tires?

If you’ve been taking good care of your tires, you’re going to know how well they’re holding up and how much more life to expect. Tires have different lifespans, depending on how they were designed, how a vehicle was driven and on what kind of road conditions, and climate. Some rules of thumb:

  • 5 years: Some tires may be close to the end of their lifespan. Regular inspections are vital.
  • 10 years: Don’t use tires any older than 10 years, even if the treads don’t appear worn.
  • TLC: Maintain the right air pressure, and regularly rotate, align, and inspect your tires. You’ll get the heads up that it’s time for replacements in plenty of time.
